Edam to Santpoort-Noord, The Netherlands

Scroll down to content

Today we joined the Backroads Bubble and headed for the little town of Edam which is north of Amsterdam. Y’all have probably heard of Edam because that is where the cheese is from and is the historic home of a large cheese trade across Europe and beyond.

We started near the Markmeer Sea which is actual fresh water now due to man made dikes.

Soon we were off and rolling through the village of Edam.

Traveling along the country roads north of Amsterdam.

Mostly we were on bike paths which are sprinkled around the countryside like a plate of spaghetti.

Water is everywhere here and part of the country life.

More bike paths.

Flat is just not a strong enough descriptor of the landscape here. So what ever word is stronger than flat, that describes the topography.

Flower seem to be everywhere although they have not had much rain here lately so things are starting to get dry.

Fabrice taking photos.

Train tracks and bike paths.

Larry and Mary Ellen rolling through the countryside.

Dutch Frys are everywhere. Klein means small in dutch…..I was not aware of that.

Tough to tell in this image but the water level is actually above the road.

Although the weather looks threatening, it was actually very comfortable and typical I think for this part of the world.

Finally, our home for the night. Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg, a far cry from Bear Creek Point two weeks ago!
